about

good day, we have just released a new song. It's called 'Standing in The Shadows'. In early lockdown 2020, my dad had found a recording of a song he wrote in the late-80s in Slough with his mate, Jeff. They'd been listening to a lot of The The. I was into it. Asked to 'borrow' the main chord sequence (dad generously obliged) and added some extra parts to it. Our rhythm section (aka The Highlanders) & James Knight beefed it up before Dave Huntriss layered some wonderful brass arrangements. Recorded at Humm in Bristol with Dom Mitchison.

My dad first got me into music and helped me to pick up an instrument when I was child, I'm really happy that there's now another thread through our musical lives.

lyrics

Standing in the shadows
Only a teardrop ready to explode in your mind
And out into the streets like some kind of
Rhythm in your sheets
Heard a story told
There's a place I'll go before I'm old
And I rage in time

All across the wilderness of some deep moonlit night
They threw the book at me but really
I never knew I got it wrong
All the time, got it wrong

Standing in the footsteps of a great
He jumps but I just sit and I wait
Have you heard the news? he says
No, your little dreams ain't gone
Heard a story once,
Face to face with something you once loved
Are you scared this time?

All along the waterfront
of some clear Spanish tide
We three, Wilson, and the fear
We'd never get it right

Now you know where I've been
Living on a lonely line
Heaven knows there's a chance
You're scared of what you might find
On your escape for the week
He turned away
Let it be

Get it wrong
All the time
Get it wrong
All the time
Get it wrong
